New Visual Identity
The foundation stone of Al-Zaeem Al-Azhari University was laid in the celebrations of independence days in the year 1991, in accordance with the Republican Decree No. (485-1990 AD), which stipulated the establishment of a national university bearing the name of Al-Azhari leader "in his honor" based on the proposal made by Professor Bashir Al-Nafidi and a generous number of patriots.
The university was later transformed into a public university affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in accordance with Presidential Decree No. (22-1993). The first university council was formed under the chairmanship of Professor Ahmed Zain Al-Abidin, and the membership of sixty-one others, and then the first batch was accepted in the year (1993-1994 AD).
Within the framework of the continuous development process organized by the university, Professor Nasr El-Din Mohamed Ahmed Sharif is launching the new "visual identity" of the university, today, Wednesday, January 25, 2023, and issuing its guide, which is the main reference for any issue related to the university's new logo, the guide contains strict guidelines to ensure the uniformity and authenticity of this logo.
The guide is located in a booklet of (57) pages, and contains an accurate description of the implementation of all elements of the new identity, including an explanation of the concept of the logo and its composition, its graphic elements, dimensions, proportions, methods of use, colors, and all its topography elements, in addition to the quality of the university's name font in Arabic and English. The guide also contains an accurate description of the design of all types of office papers for the various departments and colleges of the university, business cards, envelopes, internal notes, seals, academic certificates, students, professors and staff cards, board buildings and units of the university and its cars, in addition to promotional gifts, the official website of the university and every design related to the university.
The design of this new identity comes to keep pace with the tremendous development witnessed by the university, in order to express its mission and its leading educational, academic, research and community personality, and to consolidate its mental image in internal, regional and global forums.
The new logo is inspired by several main elements, represented in the (shield) of the flag, which contained the components of the logo in a deep symbolic indication of the importance of the educational process and scientific research, and put inside it the letter (A), which symbolizes the leader (Al-Azhari), to complete the shape of the letter by adding an "open book icon" to emphasize the academic and research originality of the university with the addition of an abbreviation of the letters of the university's name inside it (AAU), in order to introduce it globally, the design contained many indirect symbolic connotations as well. The design has preserved the general spirit of the old logo, and the name of the university has been added in Arabic in Thuluth script, and in English in Old English script, two of the oldest fonts. The design was also executed in the colors of the (old) independence flag of Sudan consisting of blue, yellow and green which symbolized "at that time" the trilogy of the Nile, the desert and the green plains, which later became the flag of the Democratic Unionist Party headed by leader Ismail Al-Azhari
This was at the initiative of Mr. Kamal El-Din Abdel Mahmoud Kamel, "Executive Director of the Office of the President of the University", submitted to the "former" Rector, Professor Al-Waleed Muhammad Al-Amin, to develop the university's logo and issue an integrated identity, according to which the President of the University issued Resolution No. (54) regarding the formation of a special committee for this purpose headed by Dr. Nasser Ali Abu Taha, and the membership of, Dr. Khaled Osman Ahmed, DR.Mohamed Mamoun , Ms.Elaine Abdel Rahim, and Mr. Kamal El-Din Abdel Mahmoud Kamel as a member and rapporteur. This committee supervised the implementation of the new visual identity file of the university with continuous follow-up from the President of the University until the identity file was approved.
The logo and visual identity file were designed by the plastic artist and designer Dr. Khaled Osman Ahmed, who is one of the experts and specialists in this field for more than thirty years, graduated from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, and received master's and doctoral degrees in calligraphy and Arabic and Latin typography, and designed and implemented many local and international works in this field.
